Your dedicated Barrie dentist office
We are committed to making sure each and every patient is feeling comfortable, informed and confident that they are receiving the highest standard of dental care available. Dental office visits usually are not something most people look forward to, but we will do our absolute best to keep you smiling during and after your visit.
What to expect during your visits
The first appointment is when we take the time to get to know you. When you first come in, we ask that you fill out the necessary medical history forms or print them at home and bring them in. Dr. Steve Mocrae will meet with you to address any concerns you have on your mind as well as having our staff take digital x-rays of your teeth so that we have the whole picture. One of our certified hygienists will then do a thorough inspection of your teeth and gums to spot any gum disease or cavities.
Please remember to bring any insurance information you may need, as well as government issued photo ID in case you are given a prescription for pain. The Ontario government now requests ID be presented such as health card or drivers license for narcotic prescriptions to be issued.
Subsequent appointments are typically scheduled following your first appointment for cleaning and any filling work that may be required. After the essential treatments are out of the way, many patients consider some of our cosmetic procedures to help enhance their smile and confidence. Appointments for these procedures vary in scope and structure, but can be discussed in further detail in person or by phone.
When to come back
It’s important to remember that most patients come in for their routine checkup every six months. This is essential for maintaining a healthy, lasting smile and will be slightly different in structure than new patient examinations, as they are usually much shorter in length. Patients are also often advised to schedule a cleaning appointment around the six month mark to maintain oral integrity and prevent cavity formation. If however you have gum disease, we recommend a cleaning every three months to help combat the progression of disease. With this option, you will alternate between having just a cleaning and having a cleaning plus checkup every three months.
